MineThon is playing host to very wonderful Youtuber, MrArcherMC who’s running a 12-hour Buildathon! If you’re unfamiliar with Archer, he specializes in medieval build tutorials. He’ll give you to how-to, to create everything from townhouses to castles, and boy do they look good! Archer will lead a city build, and you’re all invited to take part!

The Buildathon will start at: 2 PM (PST or -8:00 GMT) on March 3, 2012.
And end at: 2 AM (PST or -8:00 GMT) on March 4, 2012.

And hey, it wouldn’t be a MineThon event without a contest! All this week, we’re giving you the chance to win a FREE, limited-print MineThon t-shirt. If you’d like a stab at winning, all you have to do is Follow @MineThon and RT this tweet.

The winner will be announced at: 8 PM (PST or -8:00 GMT) on March 3, 2012.

If you have some spare time this Saturday, you should definitely drop by for some city-building fun. It’s going to be action-packed and full of awesome, and we can’t wait for the Buildathon. Let’s get our medieval on!

GenSTREAM Interview!

I recently sat down with Chris from game marathon network, GenSTREAM to do an interview about MineThon. It was a lot of fun. We talked about how the first marathon went, and I revealed the main focus for MineThon 2.

If you haven’t heard of GenSTREAM, it’s a great website for discovering upcoming marathons. To make it easy for you, they’ve even made a list. GenSTREAM also features interviews and live streams. When it comes to all things marathon related, GenSTREAM is the real deal!

If you’d like, you can listen to the interview here.

Minecraft Server!

The MineThon team frequents Zeal’s Reach, a snazzy Minecraft server. Server Host MCLayer provides them with a public, 45-slot Minecraft server! They have active players, moderators and admins. You should stop by!

MineThon Banner IN Minecraft!

Every once and awhile, the MineThon community wows me. You’ve all made amazing creations, but when I saw this particular one, my jaw dropped. MineThon community member, Dwarf_Honeydew recreated the MineThon banner IN Minecraft. The screenshot above is doesn’t do Honeydew’s creation justice. The banner is massive! What you can see above is more than forty chunks alone.

What’s most astonishing is that Honeydew made this entirely by hand. He used a program to view the MineThon banner in pixels, and then with the help of three friends, built the recreation over the course of three weeks.

Honeydew’s recreation makes everyone at MineThon incredibly happy. When I showed it to Patrick, our artist who made the banner, he couldn’t believe it. Heck, I still can’t believe it!

Everyone at MineThon would like to thank Honeydew and the MineThon community as a whole. You’re all awesome, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

Here’s a shot of the entire recreation:

If you’d like, you can download the map with Honeydew’s recreation here.

Forums are Live!

We just opened up our MineThon forums! The forums are the perfect way for everyone in the MineThon community to get to know each other.

We hope to see you there!

Thank You!

From everyone at MineThon, we’d like to thank you. Because of your support, we raised $4,401 for Child’s Play. To put that in perspective, that’s 146 copies of Minecraft! If you couldn’t donate, and participated in MineThon by simply viewing, or telling your friends, we appreciate your support tremendously.

So, what now?

Well, we’re working up some exciting ideas for MineThon 2. Our second marathon is going to focus on viewer participation! Many of you enjoyed the archer war and the castle battle, so at MineThon 2, we’ll have lots more organized events for donors to participate in. If you can’t donate, we’ll always be watching the chatroom, so you can chat with us throughout our marathon. At MineThon 2, we’ll also have a bunch of Twitter contests, so keep an eye out for those!

Again, the MineThon hosts would like to thank everyone who showed up for MineThon. Whether you donated or not, you helped to make our marathon what it is today, a great, fun and successful charity fundraiser.

You’re all awesome, and we hope to see you at MineThon 2!

(NOTE: MineThon 2 is in the early stages of development. We’ll announce more information about our second marathon at a later date!)
